Inspired by the Pokémon Paradox from the Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet video games, the Scarlet & Violet - Paradox Rift expansion will introduce ancient Pokémon, future Pokémon, and Trainer cards, which were recently unveiled at the 2023 Pokémon World Championships. Ancient Pokémon, embodying toughness and power, typically have direct attacks that deal high damage and are harder to knock down. Utilizing speed and technique, Future Pokémon have abilities and attacks with additional effects that allow for clever maneuvers and underhanded strategy. Additionally, Ancient Trainer cards typically support ancient Pokémon, while Future Trainer cards support future Pokémon.

In the upcoming Pokémon TCG expansion, Tech Machines will also return as new Pokémon Tool cards. When attached, they grant access to a new attack.
